“Sail Out” fuels the fire “Sailing Souls” created in hopes of setting a blaze with “Souling Out.” The album is available for purchase on iTunes.Purchase and download this album in a wide variety of formats depending on your needs. “ Really we had the perfect end / that night, we shared at the Comfort Inn / we made love like the world would have ended / if either of us had admit it / we were in love / but I was the only one.” The emotionally rough vocals following a guitar mimic the cry of the strings. Lastly, “Sail Out” closes with “Comfort Inn Ending (Freestyle).” Traces of Michael Jackson’s “Dirty Diana” are threaded in the song. He apparently got “way too high” and couldn’t sufficiently produce 16 bars.

His flow is like the annoying driver who speeds up and slows down in front of you you just want to get around him. Jhené draws out her melodies while singing, “ I am Alice, I’m in Wonderland / where’s the rabbit? He is late again.” Ab-Soul’s verse lacks direction and story. WTH stands for “way too high.” This is definitely a song where weed is needed. The EP loses its momentum at “WTH,” which features Ab-Soul. The musical variations echo the lyric’s story progression. She sings: “ if everything is dipped in gold / then baby it’ll never grow / everything ain’t sugar coated / what a life.” The last 50 seconds consist of the lyrics, “ what a life,” chopped and screwed. Midway through the track, it transitions to a reverbed chord where Jhené delivers her verses in rap melodies and then fades in and out of harmonies. She passes the baton to Kendrick who, with witty word play, covers the realm of a romance in a sexual relationship and how chemistry can’t be forced. Led by an 808 drum, Jhené croons about seizing the moments in life especially relationships. This is the longest song on the EP, clocking in at six minutes and 23 seconds. One of the standout tracks is “Stay Ready (What a Life)” co-starring Kendrick Lamar. Vince continues the narrative by recounting a relationship with an ex-girlfriend and how he coped with the loss through this particular recreational activity.

As she would like another weed “hit,” she also wants to be back in a romantic relationship. She uses this contemporary term to refer to a relationship that shares the same characteristics as weed-it relaxes her and makes her feel invincible. The lyrics, “ can I hit it again,” are laced through the song making reference to smoking a blunt, but Jhené is deeper than this. “Sail Out” opens with “Vapors” featuring Vince Staples. The EP consists of R&B mid-tempo tracks with several guest appearances from crowd favorites like Kendrick Lamar and Childish Gambino. Each song on the record rides the same sonic wave. Her main art lies in her unconventional song structures she de-emphasizes the hook and slickly utilizes bridges. She is most powerful in between minor keys and chords. Her tracks are stripped of heavy production in that her voice is the main instrument. Very much like the weed she sings about, Jhené’s voice lifts and draws in her listeners on a smooth audio journey. However, she released a seven-track EP called “Sail Out” to quench the thirst of her fans. Her major label debut “Souling Out” is still in the stew. Following the success of her R&B mixtape release “Sailing Souls” (2011), she signed under No I.D.’s Artium Label through Def Jam. But now, she’s created her own meal with her choice of ingredients. She was fed an image and musical content that misrepresented her. The 25-year-old mother and Los Angeles native has carved herself a special place in the music industry.Īs a teen, she worked under the wings of B2K and was the label’s puppet. She’s been featured on Big Sean’s Billboard Top 100 track, “Beware,” as well as Drake’s “From Time” on his latest album “Nothing Was the Same.” Not to mention, she recently toured with Nas and Lauryn Hill to further foster her fan base. Jhené Aiko’s airy jazz tone has graced various mainstream records this past year.
